Primus
frontman covers "Animals"
Les Claypool's
Frog Brigade covers Floyd's 1977 album in its entirety
Primus
frontman Les Claypool and his Frog Brigade will release "Live
Frogs Set 2" on July 24. The album is a song-for-song
cover of Pink Floyd's 1977 "Animals"
album.
"Nothing
was more haunting to a prepubescent kid of those days than the sound
of the squealing pig at the beginning of the aptly titled 'Pigs,'"
Claypool said. "The 'Animals'
record is one of those albums I've purchased multiple times over
the years, and the aforementioned 'Pigs' is a song that I've always
dreamed of performing given the right instrumentation.
"In the
summer of 2000, I put together a little group called the Frog Brigade.
With the Brigade, I had the instrumentation I needed to perform
the tune. As we started learning 'Pigs,' I realized that we could
take it one step further and actually play the album in its entirety."
The Frog Brigade
consists of Claypool; Todd Huth, guitar; Skerik, saxophone;
Jay Lane, drums; Jeff Chimenti, keyboards; and Eenor,
guitar.
The album
was recorded live in October 2000 at San Francisco's Great American
Music Hall.
