Gilmour donates $6.48 million to charity Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has donated $6.48 million (4.5 million pounds) to charity. The money came from the sale of Gilmour's London, England, house. "I don't need the money, and I just thought it would be a good thing to do," Gilmour said in The Sunday Telegraph. "I've had that house for nearly 20 years. It's made a fat profit and I've scarcely used it for the last six or seven years." The Independent newspaper reports he bought the property for $430,000 (300,000 pounds). Gilmour, 54, said he sold the home to simplify his life. "You collect Ferraris and then you've got to collect people to look after your Ferraris, and you've got to collect buildings to house the Ferraris," The Sunday Telegraph quoted him as saying. "Life gets very complicated. And eventually, at least in my case, you think 'I don't need this stuff.' And suddenly life gets simpler." The proceeds will go to Crisis, a charity that helps the homeless. Gilmour is a regular contributor to the organization through his DG Charitable Trust. He sold the home to Earl Spencer, brother of the late Princess Diana. Gilmour lives in a farmhouse in West Sussex. He also owns a house in Greece. (Posted: Jan. 14, 2002)
