Two new books about Pink Floyd are in the works. "Pink Floyd: The Wall" by music historian/collector Vernon Fitch will be published in July. "Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" by the BBC's John Cavanagh will arrive on Sept. 15. Fitch's new title will be published in paperback by British publisher Reynolds & Hearn. "It's early days with Vernon's book ," editorial director Marcus Hearn told "Floydian Slip"™ on May 2, "so early that I don't even have a cover to show you yet." Fitch is owner of The Pink Floyd Archives and author of "Pink Floyd: The Press Reports, 1966-1983" (Apogee Books, May 2001) and "The Pink Floyd Encyclopedia" (CG Publishing Inc., November 1998), a frighteningly comprehensive compendium of the band. Cavanagh is a former presenter of the "Rock Show" on BBC Radio One and is a regular presenter on several other BBC Radio networks. "Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" is part of The Continuum International Publishing Group's 33 1/3 series, a collection of short books devoted to popular and critically acclaimed albums of the last 40 years. Focusing on one album rather than an artist's entire output, the books in the series skip biographical background and cut to the heart of the music on each album. Other albums to be featured in the series include "The Velvet Underground and Nico," Radiohead's "OK Computer," Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" and Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland." The 158-page title will be published in paperback. Though Continuum lists Sept. 15 as the publication date, the New York/London firm's Web site adds that the title will be "available in the UK and rest of world after November 2003."
