R&B vocalist/songwriter Doris Troy died Feb. 16 in Las Vegas, Nev. She was 67 years old. Troy is best known in the United States for her Top 10 hit "Just One Look" (1963) and in the U.K. for the Top 40 hit "What'cha Gonna Do About It?" (1964). But Pink Floyd fans might remember her best for being one of a handful of people who sang backing vocals on Floyd's 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon." A native New Yorker, Troy sang with The Drifters, Solomon Burke and others before moving to London in 1969. After arriving in England she recorded a solo album ("Doris Troy," 1970) that featured contributions from rock heavyweights George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, and Stephen Stills, and continued backing sessions for groups such as The Rolling Stones, Kevin Ayers, Tom Jones, Billy Preston and others. Troy had suffered from emphysema. A memorial service is planned for March in New York. (Posted: Feb. 20, 2004)
