to publish long-delayed book
"Inside Out" first book about Pink
Floyd written by a member of band
Pink
Floyd
drummer Nick Mason's
long-delayed "Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd"
will be published by Weidenfeld & Nicholson
on Sept. 9.
The 360-page
memoir will be the first book written about the band by a member
of the group.
"I started
making notes for this book in 1994," Mason tells Mojo
magazine. "We had just finished a world tour, and for the first
time in months I was not involved in trying to stuff another bundle
of free T-shirts, tour jackets, hotel soaps and towelling robes
into my suitcase. I thought it was time to deal with the questions
I'd been asked 30-odd-years: 'How did the band get its name?', 'Where's
Syd?', 'What's it really like?'
"It's
only taken 10 years to come up with some answers, to be honest about
the triumphs and the shambles that make up a band's life."
The book features
cover art by long-time Floyd designer Storm
Thorgerson. It contains 250 photographs, including
previously unpublished pictures of the band at an early rehearsal
at the Regent Street Poly, when the group called itself Sigma 6.
Guitarist
David Gilmour is
reported to have tried to stop the book in 1995 — preferring
an official biographer write it with input from all three remaining
members.
The title's
been listed at online retail outlets off and on ever since, causing
speculation about the book's actual publication date. A hardcover
version is listed now at Amazon U.K. for £21. A paperback version,
listed for sale starting Oct. 6, 2005, goes for £9.99.
Addendum:
The paperback was published in the U.S. April 1, 2005. Order
