Musicians will gather to mark 50th anniversary of Fender guitar
Pink
Floyd guitarist
David Gilmour will perform at a charity
event to mark the 50th anniversary of the Fender guitar. The concert
is scheduled for Sept. 24 at Wembley Arena, England.
Gilmour is
one of many big names scheduled to perform. Other acts include Joe
Walsh, Johnny Marr (Smiths), Mike
Rutherford (Genesis, Mike & The Mechanics), Paul
Carrick (Mike & The Mechanics), Paul Rodgers
(Free), and Hank Marvin (The Shadows).
The event
will benefit Nordoff-Robbins
Music Therapy UK in London. The organization, which
uses music to help disabled children, was also the beneficiary of
the 1990 Knebworth concert
that Floyd participated in.
Gilmour owns
the first Fender Stratocaster ever built. It is believed to be worth
$1.82 million.
