Pink Floyd University, a new correspondence course devoted to all things Floydian, has opened its virtual doors.
The project is an evolution of two courses Karl “Pink” Anderson (pictured) taught at Renton Technical College (RTC) in Renton, Wash., 10 years ago.
Anderson, now in Bay City, Ore., has expanded the curriculum to include what he promises will be an exhaustive study of the band and its output contained in 30 modules.
Registration for the course is $125, with each module costing an additional $50. Students receive course materials — including audio material — either via email or snail mail. With a maximum of four weeks to complete each module, students can graduate within 2½ years at a total cost of $1,625.
Anderson used archives from our Floydian Slip radio show to supplement his courses back at RTC. We have no official tie to PFU.
More information is available at the PFU Web site, or email Anderson at redpanda54@embarqmail.com.

The CD included with the issue is a re-recording of “Madcap” by Hawkwind, Marc Almond, R.E.M., Robyn Hitchcock and others.

We’ve dropped the fee we had been charging affiliate stations to air “Floydian Slip.” Or, in broadcasting parlance, we’ve shifted from a “cash” to a “barter” model. We hope the effect will be to get more affiliates to sign on to carry our weekly broadcast.
Why the change?
Stations just aren’t accustomed to paying cash for syndicated programming, no matter how low the price. Most expect to get shows like “Floydian Slip” without paying a fee. In exchange, they give airtime for syndicators’ network commercials that are included in their shows.
We’re focusing on expanding our Random Precision Radio Network, with hopes to eventually attract a network sponsor.
Pink Floyd fans can lend a hand: We’ve made our radio station database searchable online so you can see what station(s) in your area we’ve already approached and put in a good word.
Search the database and help bring “Floydian Slip” to your local station!
