mojoPink Floyd & Syd Barrett score entries on Mojo's "drug songs" list
Who woulda thunk?

Mojo magazine's "100 Greatest Drug Songs" contains two Floydian entries: Pink Floyd's "Astronomy Domine" from 1967's "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn"; and Syd Barrett's "If It's in You," from his 1970 "The Madcap Laughs" album.

The list, published in the magazine's December 2002 issue, includes Barrett's song at #96. Writer Byron Coley calls it "the sound of acid dismantling a brain," adding that Barrett's rambling performance "demonstrates the awesome power of acid, capable of building or destroying any structure imaginable."

Floyd's "Astronomy Domine" is at #68 on the list. Referring to "Piper" as "the original hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy," Rob Chapman writes, "'Astronomy Domine' is where the English acid-experience kicks in."

The magazine lists the top three drug songs as "Heroin," The Velvet Underground, #3; "Tomorrow Never Knows," The Beatles, #2; and "White Rabbit," Jefferson Airplane, #1.
