dark side of the moon"Dark Side of the Moon" to be released in SACD
Multi-channel edition to coincide with album's 30th anniversary

Capitol Records/EMI will issue a Super Audio CD (SACD) version of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" (1973) on March 25. The release will coincide with the album's 30th anniversary.

Sources at EMI in Los Angeles, Calif., have confirmed for "Floydian Slip"™ that the release will be in the SACD format. Earlier rumors had the release in the DVD-Audio (DVD-A) format.

Industry pundits are predicting the disc will quickly become the fledgling format's best-selling title. "Dark Side of the Moon" is one of the best-selling albums of all time, spending a total of 15 years (724 weeks) on Billboard magazine's album chart. It remains in the magazine's pop catalog chart.

Sony and Phillips Electronics developed the SACD format in September 1999. Like DVD-A, SACD offers increased audio fidelity, and can provide six-track multichannel audio, as well as text and images. SACDs are playable in standard CD players as well as SACD-enabled devices.
