Song to appear in film remake soundtrack

The Project, a band consisting of former members of Guns n' Roses, will record a version of Pink Floyd's "Money" for an upcoming film soundtrack.

The song will appear in the motion picture soundtrack for "The Italian Job," a remake of the 1969 Michael Caine film. The movie will star Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton and Charlize Theron. The soundtrack will be released May 26.

The recording will feature Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots on vocals, and guitarist David Kushner from Loaded. The other members of The Project are Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum.

The recording has lead to increased speculation that Weiland will permanently join The Project as the band's vocalist.

"Scott is doing this one because that's the voice that they wanted and they like working with him," a spokesman for Slash told Rolling Stone, who added that a number of vocalists are being considered.

Floyd's "Have a Cigar" was recorded by Foo Fighters with Brian May of Queen for the 2000 "Mission Impossible II" soundtrack.

Addendum: The Project has renamed itself Velvet Revolver.

Purchase "The Italian Job" DVD.
