storm thorgersonStorm Thorgerson tour coming to U.S.
First-ever U.S. exhibition devoted to Pink Floyd sleeve designer opens in May

The first-ever exhibition in the United States devoted to works by Pink Floyd album cover designer Storm Thorgerson begins May 6.

"Taken by Storm: Art of Storm Thorgerson" will be at Chicago's Inspire Fine Art May 6 through June 5. The show will become part of the "Art in Music" exhibition at Forest Lawn Museum in Los Angeles, Calif., July 31 through Oct. 9.

The show debuted in London in Autumn 2004. It will continue to tour in America through 2005 and 2006.

Thorgerson, a childhood friend of members of Pink Floyd, designed his first Floyd sleeve for 1968's "A Saucerful of Secrets." As a member of design team Hipgnosis or on his own, he has created more than a dozen sleeves for Floyd and its members, as well as for classic groups such as Led Zeppelin, Genesis, 10cc, and the Alan Parsons Project — and newer groups such as Audioslave, Mars Volta, and countless others.

Thorgerson was our guest on the Oct. 29, 1997, "Floydian Slip" broadcast. The complete transcript and audio from the interview is available online.

Exhibition tour details and updates can be found at www.takenbystorm.us.
