Roger Waters opera to premiere Nov. 17 in Rome

"Ca Ira," the classical opera from Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters, debuted this week at number one on the Billboard Traditional Classical chart.

Waters' "operatic history of the French Revolution" was released Sept. 27, as a Digipak that includes two hybrid Super Audio CDs (SACDs) in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The discs are compatible with standard CD players.

The package includes a 60-page booklet including Waters' lyrics based on Etienne Roda-Gil's original French libretto, the original illustrations created by Nadine Roda-Gil, biographies of Waters and the opera's cast, background and production notes on the opera.

"Ca Ira" includes a DVD documentary chronicling the "making of" the opera. It traces the history of the project and includes interviews with Waters and the cast, as well as in-the-studio footage of the recording of the opera.

"Ca Ira" will have its world premiere in a semi-staged concert performance Nov. 17 and 18 in Rome at the Santa Cecilia Hall of the Auditorium Parco Della Musica. The Nov. 17 performance is sold out.

"Ca Ira" features orchestration and choral arrangements by Waters with Rick Wentworth. Both served a producers of the album.
