Hollywood stuntman Ronnie Rondell Jr.<\/strong>, pictured ablaze on the cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” (1975) album, has died. He was 88.<\/p>\n He died Tuesday at a senior living commumity in Osage Beach, MO.<\/p>\n Rondell, who came from a family of stuntmen, doned a layer of protecting fireproofing under a business suit, was dosed with gasoline, and set on fire 15 times for the Hipgnosis photo shoot on the Warner Bros. backlot in Los Angeles. (Danny Rogers<\/strong> was the model on the left.)<\/p>\n \u201cThe flames were blown back and ignited his real moustache for an instant,\u201d Storm Thorgerson<\/strong> of Hipgnosis recalled. \u201cA close shave, one might say.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a funny thing about fire,\u201d Rondell said. \u201cWhen it gets in your face, you\u2019re going to move.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe fell to the ground, absolutely smothered with foam and blankets and everything like that, and he got up, said, \u2018That\u2019s it. No more,’\u201d according to Aubrey “Po” Powell<\/strong>, the Hipgnosis team member shooting the photos. \u201cLuckily, I got it in the can.\u201d<\/p>\n Rondell’s resume included work for TV series “Charlie\u2019s Angels,” “Baretta,” “S.W.A.T.”,\u00a0 “Fantasy Island,” “Dynasty,” “Hart to Hart,” “T.J. Hooker” and others.<\/p>\n His film work included “Lethal Weapon,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Diamonds Are Forever,” “Thelma & Louise,” “Speed,” and “Hooper,” among others.<\/p>\n He retired from Hollywood in\u00a0 2000.<\/p>\n
