{"id":3498,"date":"2011-12-04T10:18:22","date_gmt":"2011-12-04T14:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/?p=3498"},"modified":"2011-12-04T10:18:22","modified_gmt":"2011-12-04T14:18:22","slug":"radio-kaoss-jim-ladd-coming-to-siriusxm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/2011\/12\/radio-kaoss-jim-ladd-coming-to-siriusxm\/","title":{"rendered":"Radio KAOS&#8217;s Jim Ladd coming to SiriusXM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Legendary Los Angeles rock radio DJ <strong>Jim Ladd<\/strong>, who was an integral part of <strong>Roger Waters<\/strong>&#8216;s 1987 concept album &#8220;Radio K.A.O.S.,&#8221; will take a job with satellite radio provider <strong>SiriusXM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ladd will host a nightly show on the service&#8217;s &#8220;Deep Tracks&#8221; Channel 27 starting in January.\u00a0It&#8217;ll be the first time Ladd will be heard nationally.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Traditional FM radio has turned its back on the very thing that made rock radio the magical experience it was intended to be,&#8221; Ladd says. &#8220;SiriusXM is kicking down the doors of the stagnant, preprogrammed fodder that passes for radio today by encouraging me to do my free-form show so we can all share this experience live as it happens.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ladd played the part of the DJ on Roger Waters&#8217;s &#8220;Radio K.A.O.S.&#8221; album, conversing with the album&#8217;s\u00a0protagonist\u00a0Billy, a Welsh boy\u00a0living\u00a0with this uncle in Los Angeles\u00a0who can talk with communication satellites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cumulus Radio Inc. <\/strong>abruptly fired Ladd from Los Angeles station <strong>KLOS <\/strong>at the end of October after a 14-year run.<\/p>\n<p>L.A.&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>KFI<\/strong> 640 AM made news when it allowed Ladd on the air Nov. 5, shortly after leaving KLOS, so he could air a three-hour farewell show.\u00a0Ladd was the inspiration for <strong>Tom Petty<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;The Last DJ.&#8221;\u00a0Ironically, KFI is owned by radio giant <strong>Clear Channel Communications<\/strong>, which banned Petty&#8217;s song from its 850 stations for being &#8220;anti-radio.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Petty told a crowd at a Oct. 29 benefit concert, &#8220;Jim Ladd was fired for having an imagination.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ladd will be selecting all the music he plays on his SiriusXM program, something nearly unheard of in today&#8217;s over-the-air market.\u00a0&#8220;I will be playing everything I want, from <strong>Pink Floyd<\/strong> to\u00a0Tom Petty\u00a0&amp; The Heartbreakers, from <strong>The Doors<\/strong> to <strong>Moby Grape<\/strong>, freely and with no play lists,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p>SiriusXM broadcasts more than 135 satellite radio channels of commercial-free music, sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic, weather, and data services to more than 21 million subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>Shine on, Jim!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Legendary Los Angeles rock radio DJ Jim Ladd, who was an integral part of Roger Waters&#8216;s 1987 concept album &#8220;Radio K.A.O.S.,&#8221; will take a job with satellite radio provider SiriusXM.
