{"id":4705,"date":"2013-07-10T20:00:38","date_gmt":"2013-07-11T00:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/?p=4705"},"modified":"2013-06-28T09:00:02","modified_gmt":"2013-06-28T13:00:02","slug":"the-exboyfriends-win-surrogate-bands-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/2013\/07\/the-exboyfriends-win-surrogate-bands-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"The Exboyfriends win Surrogate Bands contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York City <em>a cappella<\/em> group <strong>The Exboyfriends<\/strong> won our 3rd Annual Surrogate Bands Pink Floyd Cover Contest.<\/p>\n<p>The seven-member group won with a pitch-perfect rendition of &#8220;In the Flesh&#8221; from Floyd&#8217;s 1979 album &#8220;The Wall.&#8221; Their submission incorporates both parts of the song as well as &#8220;Outside the Wall.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Exboyfriends have been performing together semi-professionally for more than 10 years in New York City clubs, colleges and cable television, and over nationally-syndicated radio.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In The Flesh&#8221; is the opening track on their new studio album <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/album\/happy-ending\/id657563886\"><strong>&#8220;Happy Ending,&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> available on iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>The Exboyfriends receive $200 in merchandise courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.pinkfloyd.com\"><strong>The Official Web Store of Pink Floyd<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Second prize, selected by random drawing, was <strong>The Surrogate Band<\/strong>, an Italian tribute act composed of seven musicians, who submitted a live medley of Floyd songs.<\/p>\n<p>The band receives a hardcover copy of Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell&#8217;s coffee table book <strong>&#8220;For the Love of Vinyl: The Album Art of Hipgnosis&#8221;<\/strong> and a CD copy of <strong>&#8220;A Foot in the Door: The Best of Pink Floyd.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All entrants receive a free one-year subscription to <strong>Sound+Vision<\/strong> magazine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York City a cappella group The Exboyfriends won our 3rd Annual Surrogate Bands Pink Floyd Cover Contest.
