{"id":6628,"date":"2015-07-31T08:18:17","date_gmt":"2015-07-31T12:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/?p=6628"},"modified":"2015-07-31T08:20:51","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T12:20:51","slug":"video-david-gilmours-rattle-that-lock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/2015\/07\/video-david-gilmours-rattle-that-lock\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: David Gilmour&#8217;s &#8220;Rattle That Lock&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The animated music video for <strong>David Gilmour<\/strong>&#8216;s new song, &#8220;Rattle That Lock,&#8221; was released today.<\/p>\n<p>The animation was created by <strong>Alasdair &amp; Jock<\/strong> from London&#8217;s <strong>Trunk Animation<\/strong>, under creative directorship of <strong>Aubrey Powell<\/strong> of <strong>Hipgnosis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rattle That Lock&#8221; is the title track from Gilmour\u2019s new album coming Sept. 18. from <strong>Sony Music\/Columbia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love animation when it does something that can\u2019t be achieved any other way,&#8221; Gilmour says. &#8220;(It) highlights a darkness in the song that couldn\u2019t have been shown any other way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe animators have done a fine job: paying homage to <strong>Gustave Dore<\/strong>, bringing his illustrations for &#8216;Paradise Lost&#8217; alive, making a powerful visual for the song,&#8221; adds lyricist <strong>Polly Samson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The black and white, hand-drawn animation draws from <strong>John Milton<\/strong>\u2019s &#8220;Paradise Lost,&#8221; Samson&#8217;s inspiration. The poem encompasses 12 books and tells Biblical story of the fall of man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.<\/p>\n<p>The video required a team of 12 animators, artists and compositors three months to complete. Working with sound designer <strong>Barnaby Templer<\/strong> and his team at <strong>Fonic<\/strong>, the film was layered with foley and sound effects, which were then mixed with the music track.<\/p>\n<p>The video follows the fall of Satan from Heaven and his journey through Pandemonium, Purgatory and Chaos on his way to corrupt the virgin Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Satan takes on new forms as the story is told.
