{"id":9265,"date":"2019-03-11T08:42:36","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T12:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/?p=9265"},"modified":"2019-03-11T08:42:36","modified_gmt":"2019-03-11T12:42:36","slug":"glasgow-man-makes-music-from-syd-barretts-garden-detritus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/2019\/03\/glasgow-man-makes-music-from-syd-barretts-garden-detritus\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasgow man makes music from Syd Barrett&#8217;s garden detritus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<strong><span class=\"drop-cap\"><span class=\"drop-cap__inner\">D<\/span><\/span>rew Mulholland<\/strong>, a lecturer and composer-in-residence at Glasgow University, has turned a handful of debris collected from the garden of Pink Floyd co-founder <strong>Syd Barrett<\/strong> into a 8-minute audio recording.<\/p>\n<p>Mulholland, who boasts of being labelled a &#8220;groovy academic&#8221; and &#8220;weirdy,&#8221; started producing <em>avant-garde r<\/em>ecordings as a teenager in the 1970s. In the &#8217;90s, the Ghost Box label released an album of this work titled &#8220;The S\u00e9ance at Hobs Lane&#8221; under his moniker the Mount Vernon Arts Lab.<\/p>\n<p>His Barrett-inspired piece, &#8220;Mandy Rakes Up the Leaves Again,&#8221; was created with a collection of leaves, moss and twigs Mullholland found alongside the garden of Barrett&#8217;s former home in Cambridge.
