{"id":955,"date":"2010-03-03T08:57:10","date_gmt":"2010-03-03T13:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/?p=955"},"modified":"2010-08-17T21:25:25","modified_gmt":"2010-08-18T01:25:25","slug":"battersea-redevelopment-another-step-closer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.floydianslip.com\/news\/2010\/03\/battersea-redevelopment-another-step-closer\/","title":{"rendered":"Battersea redevelopment another step closer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Pink Floyd<\/strong> fans know it best as that dark, hulking presence underneath the floating pig on the cover of the 1977 &#8220;Animals&#8221; album.<\/p>\n<p>Londoners have come to know it as an eyesore \u2014 albeit, an historic one.<\/p>\n<p>But the Battersea Power Station, out of commission since 1983, might be another step closer to a new life as a center for housing, office and retail space.<\/p>\n<p>A whopping $8.2 billion redevelopment plan set forth by architect <strong>Rafael Vinoly <\/strong>has received approval by London mayor <strong>Boris Johnson<\/strong>, and the U.K.&#8217;s Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment. The proposal is now being reviewed by the city&#8217;s planning department.<\/p>\n<p>If it goes forward, the plan would include 3,700 homes, 1.6 million square feet of office space,  500,000 square feet of retail space, and an environmentally-friendly carbon-free power plant built underground.<\/p>\n<p>Battersea has to be one of the only decommissioned power plants in the world with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.battersea-powerstation.com\/\">its own Web site<\/a> and newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>These architectural renderings come from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rvapc.com\/\">Rafael  Vinoly Architects PC<\/a> Web site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pink Floyd fans know it best as that dark, hulking presence underneath the floating pig on the cover of the 1977 &#8220;Animals&#8221; album.
