An Introduction to Syd Barrett (2010)
"I've seen you looking good the other evening ..."
"An Introduction to Syd Barrett" is a compilation of remixed and remastered songs Pink Floyd's co-founder recorded with the band and during his brief solo career.
Floyd's David Gilmour acted as Executive Producer of the album. Working with Damon Iddins and Andy Jackson at his Astoria houseboat studio, he remixed six tracks for the project: "Matilda Mother"; "Here I Go"; "Octopus"; "She Took a Long Cold Look," renamed here "She Took a Long Cool Look"; "Octopus"; and "Here I Go," which now features a bass guitar track, lacking in the original recording.
Jackson remastered all the other tracks from the analoge originals.
The real prize of the album, however, was the bonus track "Rhamadan," a 20-minute instrumental by Barrett, that had never-before been released. It was made available as a download to those who purchased the CD or the entire album online.
Commonly thought to be essentially a 20-minute drum solo, the track is more like a jazzier "Interstellar Overdrive." Produced by former manager Peter Jenner, the track is rumored to include congas by Steve Peregrine Took of Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The CD is sold in a Digipak sleeve by long-time Floyd designer Storm Thorgerson, flying under his Storm Studios moniker, along with a 20-page booklet containing lyrics.
