Floydian Slip coming to Ireland

Posted February 19, 2011 by Floydian Slip

“Floydian Slip” will begin airing on Zenith Classic Rock in Waterford, Ireland, on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

The station will carry the show each Wednesday at 10 p.m. and Sunday at 1 a.m. (UT).

Zenith Classic Rock, directed by Andy Linton, broadcasts at 103.8 FM, 1584 AM stereo, as well as via digital audio broadcasting (DAB) and streaming on the Net.

The station signed on in 2007 as an Internet-only station. It’s since been granted by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) three temporary licenses to broadcast over the air. Its current license expires at the end of next month, and the station has launched a campaign to petition the BAI for a permanent license. Lend your support by writing to the BAI. Contact information is on the BAI Web site.

Zenith Classic Rock becomes the 18th affiliate to join the show’s Random Precision Radio Network, created in Summer 2009 when we began syndicating our show from our Vermont studio.

Shine on, Ireland!

Storm Thorgerson documentary premieres next month

Posted February 15, 2011 by Floydian Slip

“Taken by Storm,” a new feature-length documentary film about prolific Pink Floyd sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson (pictured), will premiere at the South by Southwest (SxSW) festival next month.

The film will be shown three or four times during the festival, which runs March 11-20 in Austin, Texas.

According to the film’s director, Roddy Bogawa, Thorgerson is expected to attend most of the festival.

Bogawa reports Pink Floyd and EMI have been very supportive in the making of the film. “They’ve given me permission to use a one-minute clip from a helicopter shot over the beach at Devon where Storm shot ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’,” he says. “No one has ever seen this footage, I think, and it’s really amazing.

“Storm and Pink Floyd have done so much together it’s a big chunk of the film,” he adds. “There are sequences about ‘Atom Heart Mother,’ ‘Wish You Were Here,’ of course, ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason,’ with footage from my interviews with David Gilmour and Nick Mason.”

David Gilmour covers treatment for alleged computer hacker

Posted February 14, 2011 by Floydian Slip

According to Scotland’s Daily Record newspaper, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour is paying for psychiatric treatment for alleged computer hacker Gary KcKinnon (pictured).

McKinnon, a 45-year-old man from Glasgow who has Asperger’s Syndrome, has been fighting extradition to the United States for supposedly hacking into NASA and Pentagon networks a decade ago to search for evidence of UFOs.

He faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted.

Gilmour has been an advocate for McKinnon, participating in a charity re-recording of Graham Nash’s “Chicago” to benefit his defense and distributing updates about the case through his Web site and Twitter feed.

Government funding for McKinnon’s treatment was dropped last month due to cutbacks at the London National Health Service trust that was paying for his care.
