Floydian Slip’s Bizarre Collection of Antiques & Curios #9: A note from Ron Geesin

Posted March 25, 2015 by Floydian Slip

As we lead up to “Floydian Slip” Show #1,000 the week of June 8, we’re digging into the archives to share relics from the show’s past.

A few years ago we had the opportunity to interview Ron Geesin. The occasion was the 40th anniversary of the soundtrack he did with Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters: “Music from ‘The Body.'” (Ron also played a pivotal role in Floyd’s “Atom Heart Mother” [1970].)

As a follow-up, in March 2011, Ron mailed us some of his CDs. Included in the box was this cryptic note.

You can hear and read a transcript of our interview with Ron online

Ron Geesin to publish book about “Atom Heart Mother”

Posted February 10, 2013 by Floydian Slip

This summer, avante garde composer and Pink Floyd collaborator Ron Geesin will publish “The Flaming Cow,” a book about his experience putting together Pink Floyd’s “Atom Heart Mother Suite” in 1970.

Press for the book promises “a rare insight into the brilliant but often fraught collaboration” among Geesin and members of the Floyd, as well as unpublished photographs from the Abbey Road recording sessions and performances in London and Paris.

Geesin was our guest on “Floydian Slip” in November 2010. You can hear the interview and read a transcript online.

Floyd drummer Nick Mason provided an introduction to the book, which will be published July 17.

New Ron Geesin album out

Posted March 11, 2011 by Floydian Slip

Avant garde recording artist Ron Geesin has released his latest album, “RonCycle 1: The Journey of a Melody.”

Geesin has worked on the suite, composed of 16 movements, since 1986. “The reason that it has all taken so long is that, as it grew, it frightened me so much that I had to walk away for long periods,” Geesin explains.

He credits Mark Ayres, known for his work on the BBC’s “Dr. Who,” with helping complete the project by transferring parts of the project from analog tape to hard drive. “The whole digi-structure was becoming overwhelmingly complicated,” Geesin explains.

Geesin is best known to Pink Floyd fans for his work on Floyd’s “Atom Heart Mother” (1970) and his collaboration with Floyd’s Roger Waters on “Music from ‘The Body'” (1970).

He was a guest on Floydian Slip in November 2010. You can hear that interview and read a transcript online.

“RonCycle 1: The Journey of a Melody” is available on CD and 180-gram LP, which includes a bonus CD. Buy it online at tonefloat.

Ron Geesin to appear on Floydian Slip

Posted November 21, 2010 by Floydian Slip

Avant-garde multimedia artist Ron Geesin will appear on “Floydian Slip” next weekend.

Geesin collaborated on the 1970 film soundtrack “Music from The Body” with Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters. That album turns 40 years old Nov. 28.

Geesin also worked with the band on its 1970 “Atom Heart Mother” album, struggling to handle orchestrations on the epic “Atom Heart Mother Suite” while the band was away on tour.

Geesin is only the fourth guest to appear on “Floydian Slip” in the show’s 20-year history. Sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson was on the show in 1997; sound engineer Andy Jackson appeared in 2001; and “Wall” artist Gerald Scarfe was a guest just a few weeks ago.

Geesin will appear on show #764, which will air Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 27 and 28.
