Pink Floyd honored by Classic Rock magazine

Posted November 15, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Classic Rock magazine honored Pink Floyd with its “Reissue of the Year” award for the band’s Immersion boxsets released in 2011 and ’12.

Inductees of the British magazine’s “Roll of Honour” were announced Tuesday at a ceremony at the Roundhouse in London hosted by Duff McKagan (Guns ‘N Roses, Velvet Revolver).

Drummer Nick Mason was on-hand to accept.

“The Story of Wish You Were Here,” a documentary about the band’s 1975 album released on DVD and Blu-ray in June, received the Film/DVD award. The disc was released by Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Well-deserved, both.

Waters’ appearance, including a rambling ad-libbed vamp while stagehands set the stage, is at about 1:10:20 into the program.

One of the easiest ways to give to the cause is to text BWF to 50555. Your text will donate $10 to helping wounded veterans and their caregivers. You can also donate at the website.

Roger Waters has announced 20 concert dates for 2013.

The co-founder of Pink Floyd will ramp up his tour of “The Wall” again in Werchter, Belgium, on July 2. The tour will run through Sept. 18, wrapping up in Dublin, Ireland.

Ticket pre-sales begin Nov. 12 for registered members of rogerwaters.com.

The ’13 tour will visit a number of countries not included in the previous legs of the tour, including Croatia, Turkey, Romania and Serbia.

Waters has redesigned and scaled up the show to accommodate the larger, open air stadiums scheduled for ’13.

Later this month, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour will become the first artist to release an entire album as a smartphone app.

To be released for iOS Nov. 19, the app will include Gilmour’s entire 2002 DVD “David Gilmour in Concert” for $8.99. An Android release will come later.

The concert songs are: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5); Terrapin; Fat Old Sun; Coming Back to Life; High Hopes; Je Crois Entendre Encore; Smile; Wish You Were Here; Comfortably Numb (featuring Wyatt); Dimming of the Day; Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-8); A Great Day for Freedom; Hushabye Mountain; Breakthrough (featuring Richard Wright); and Comfortably Numb (featuring Bob Geldof).

Extras include: Spare Digits (closeups of Gilmour’s guitar parts); Home Movie (shot at rehearsals); High Hopes Choral; I Put A Spell On You (with Jools Holland and Mica Paris); Don’t; and Sonnet 18.

Roger Waters discusses new album

Posted November 7, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd’s Roger Water has confirmed he has plans to record another album.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Waters reveals he’s written an as-yet untitled song about religious extremism that will likely be part of an upcoming album with the working title “Heartland.”

Waters, who wrote the new song during breaks of his recent tour of “The Wall,” also revealed that former bandmates David Gilmour and Nick Mason will not appear on the album. (A bit premature to call, we’d like to think, since recording for the project hasn’t started.)

Waters’ last rock record was 1992’s “Amused to Death.” Since then he completed work on “Ca Ira,” a French opera.
