Sign petition to honor Pink Floyd in Cambridge

Posted July 6, 2015 by Floydian Slip

Stone carver Pippa Westoby (pictured) has started a petition to honor Pink Floyd with a plaque to be placed in Cambridge, England.

The band’s Syd Barrett, David Gilmour and Roger Waters have connections to the town, seen by some as the band’s true home.

The petition has 1,431 signatures; the goal is 2,000. Once complete, Westoby will present it to the Cambridge City Council.

“If we get approval, we will then be fundraising,” she told Cambridge News. “Any money raised (above the cost of getting the plaque carved) will be split equally between a few Cambridge-based charities for music, drugs and mental health.”

Sign the petition.

Surrogate Bands contest winners

Posted July 6, 2015 by Floydian Slip

Lucas Ballesteros of Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina, won the Floydian Slip’s 5th Annual Surrogate Bands Pink Floyd Cover Contest.

Lucas won with his recording of Floyd’s “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun,” and receives $200 in Floyd merchandise from shop.pinkfloyd.com.

“I’ve been playing music since I found a wrecked guitar in the house I moved to when I was six years old,” Lucas tells us. “Years later I repaired that guitar, learned to play some music and from that (point) on, I never stopped playing.”

Lucas is our first ever two-time winner: He won last year’s contest with his recording of “Echoes.”

Second prize, awarded by random drawing, went to Gilad Cohen of Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Thanks to everyone who entered this year, and watch for our 6th annual contest coming in Spring 2016.
