Random Precision Radio Network grows to 100 stations

Posted March 19, 2018 by Floydian Slip

“Floydian Slip” is now carried by 100 radio stations.

Ushering our network into triple digits is WRLF 94.3 FM in Fairmont, WV, which will begin airing the show on April 1.

“The New 94 Rock” will air “Floydian Slip” each Sunday morning at 10 ET.

WRLF is 3,600-watt rock station serving north-central West Virginia’s Morgantown-Clarksburg-Fairmont metro market, as defined by Nielson Audio. The market is ranked #175 out of 300.

We started building the Random Precision Radio Network in summer 2009 after ending a 14-year run on a single Burlington, Vt., station. We began with a single station. And then two. And then three.

While ever reaching 100 would have seemed impossible in the beginning, getting there is a testament that hard work and persistence — a whole lot of persistence — can yield results.

Having a legendary band like Pink Floyd at the center of it all doesn’t make it any harder either.

Shine on.

Division Bell voice Hawking dead at 76

Posted March 14, 2018 by Floydian Slip

British physicist Stephen Hawking has died. He was 76.

In addition to being one of the world’s brightest and best-known scientists, Pink Floyd fans know him as a voice on the band’s “The Division Bell” (1994) album.

Hawking lived with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and communicated using a speech synthesizer. It’s his synthesizer heard on the song “Keep Talking.”

The spoken passage came from a 1994 British Telecommunications television ad that caught the attention of Floyd’s David Gilmour. He described the passage to The Guardian in 2014 as “the most powerful piece of television advertising that I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Hawking is also heard on Floyd’s “The Endless River” (2014) on the song “Talkin’ Hawkin’.”

Mono remaster of “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” coming

Posted March 6, 2018 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd will release a new heavy weight vinyl remaster of its first album, “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” (1967), on Record Store Day, April 21.

James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman remastered the album in mono working from the original ’67 mono mix.

Hipgnosis’s Aubrey Powell and Peter Curzon designed the cover for the new version, which features Syd Barrett‘s silhouetted graphic of the band that adorned the back of the original LP.

A poster of the Colin Prime photo that was the basis for Barrett’s graphic is included with the disc.
