“Theatre for Dreamers” paperback ships with Gilmour CD

Posted March 25, 2021 by Floydian Slip

The paperback of Polly Samson‘s “A Theatre for Dreamers” will ship with a bonus CD containing four new tracks from husband David Gilmour.

Bloomsbury will publish the paperback version of the Pink Floyd lyricist’s latest novel April 15 in the U.K. and May 7 in the U.S.

The bonus CD contains four tracks written by Samson and Gilmour, inspired by the book:

  1. Yes, I Have Ghosts
  2. Tell the Truth
  3. Astral Dust
  4. Kokineli

The couple’s daughter, Romany Gilmour, is featured on the songs.

“Yes, I Have Ghosts” first appeared on the audiobook of “Dreamers” published last summer. The song was released in digital form last July, and as a 45 single for Record Store Day Black Friday last November.

We believe the remaining three songs on the upcoming bonus CD were also previously released on the audiobook, but are awaiting confirmation.

Pre-order the book and CD through Rough Trade in the U.K. or Rough Trade in the U.S.

Full Live at Knebworth set coming April 30

Posted March 10, 2021 by Floydian Slip

Warner Music will release “Pink Floyd Live at Knebworth 1990” for the first time on CD, double vinyl, and digital platforms on April 30.

Only two Pink Floyd tracks from the 1990 Silver Clef Winners performance at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire, were included in the 1990 album “Knebworth: The Album.” Floyd’s entire set made it into “The Later Years: 1987–2019” boxset released in 2019.

Floyd topped the bill for that June 30, 1990, event. Other artists included Paul McCartney, Dire Straits, Genesis, Phil Collins, Robert Plant (with Jimmy Page), Cliff Richard, Eric Clapton and Tears For Fears.

Approximately 120,000 fans attended the event, which supported the Nordoff Robbins charity; and MTV broadcast the concert globally.

“There is something special about Knebworth. We all still have fond memories of playing there in the ’70s, and this show was no different,” says Floyd drummer Nick Mason.

“As a North London boy this was almost a home game, but with the added delight of being the re-assembly of the band after a fairly mega-tour that had lasted for well over a year.

“It was also an opportunity to get the wonderful Candy Dulfer to play,” he adds. “I had been a fan of hers for quite a while, and it was just a shame we didn’t have an opportunity to utilize her for more.

“We also had our dear friend Michael Kamen guesting. Michael had contributed so much to Pink Floyd over the previous 10 years, it’s great to have something of his playing on the recording.”

Also joining Floyd’s Mason, David Gilmour, and Richard Wright for the performance were Guy Pratt, Jon Carin, Tim Renwick, Gary Wallis, Durga McBroom, Sam Brown, Vicki Brown and Clare Torry.

Songlist

  1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts 1-5
  2. The Great Gig In The Sky
  3. Wish You Were Here
  4. Sorrow
  5. Money
  6. Comfortably Numb
  7. Run Like Hell

The album was produced by Chris Kimsey and Steve Smith; and recorded and engineered by Mike Fraser. It’s been remixed  by Andy Jackson with David Gilmour, assisted by Damon Iddins.

Warner will handle the album’s release within Europe; Sony Music will release it outside Europe.

Pre-order the 2-LP set for $49.98. Pre-order the CD for $15.98.

Sony has informed “Floydian Slip” it will not be able to provide giveaway copies of the release. “Unfortunately we have no physical give-aways or promotional items,” a Sony rep tells us. “The pandemic, understandably, has made things challenging.”
