Sony will release a “San Tropez Orange Marble” edition of Pink Floyd‘s 1971 album “Meddle” for National Album Day on Oct. 17.
To coincide with the reissue, the band will post to its YouTube channel the final sequence from the 1973 surfing documentary “Crystal Voyager,” which uses “Echoes” from “Meddle” as its soundtrack.
Directed by David Elfick, the film was written and narrated by George Greenough, who had received a copy of “Meddle” from his mother. When we heard “Echoes” and realized its 23-minute length fit perfectly the sequence in the film, he travelled to London to request permission from the band.
Without a budget to pay for its use in the movie, he struck a deal with Floyd: He and Elfick could use the track in their film, as long as the band could project scenes from the film during Floyd’s live shows.
The band’s website points visitors to the official Record Store Day website for pre-orders.
(Note: National Album Day is Oct. 17; but the Record Store Day site lists the album’s release date as Nov. 13.)
