Royal Mint The Dark Side of the Moon coin

The Royal Mint has issued a commemorative coin celebrating Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” album.

The “Dark Side” coin became available for sale May 14. Prices for coins “Available to Order” start at £18.50; options labeled as “Currently Reserved,” which seem not to be available, range up to £5,320 for the 1 oz. gold option.

Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin, The Royal Mint says, “Pink Floyd are one of those truly rare bands whose music and imagery have transcended generations and the moment you see this coin, you know exactly who it celebrates. The iconic prism is instantly recognisable to fans around the world, and Henry Gray has done a remarkable job of bringing it to life with the craft and detail this band deserves. Their influence on music, art and culture is immeasurable, and we’re incredibly proud that The Royal Mint can play its part in preserving that legacy forever.”

The coin is part of the mint’s Music Legends series, which has also featured David Bowie, George Michael, Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, Freddie Mercury, Spice Girls and John Lennon.

Details and online order form are here: www.royalmint.com/pinkfloyd. Orders to be shipped to the United States cannot be completed, rather display an error message: “Delivery option is not available.”

A May 13 press release announcing the coin mentions the mint will also sell a limited number of exclusive guitar picks by Royal Mint designer Daniel Thorne in gold, silver and dark chrome. That product doesn’t appear on the website.
