The ’80s group, best known for “Life in a Northern Town” and “The Love Parade,” was fronted by Nick Laird-Clowes, who went on to write for Floyd’s “The Division Bell” (“Poles Apart” and “Take It Back”).

Reports: New Pink Floyd album coming this fall

Posted July 5, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Two individuals close to the Pink Floyd camp are posting to social media that a new Pink Floyd album will be released in October.

Polly Samson, wife of Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and his writing partner for the past couple decades, tweeted today: “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called ‘The Endless River.’ Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful.”

Vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson, who’s toured with Floyd and Gilmour, posted a photo previously posted to Instagram by Samson (“Photo may show David Gilmour working on new album”), with the caption, “During a session recording the NEW PINK FLOYD ALBUM!!”

More details as they’re available.

Syd Barrett catalog to be reissued on vinyl

Posted June 28, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Rhino Records and Parlophone will reissue Syd Barrett‘s three solo albums on heavy-weight vinyl this summer.

The companies will offer “The Madcap Laughs” (1970), “Barrett” (1970) and “Opel” (1988) as 180-gram LPs, sporting the original yellow and green Harvest label.

The records will drop June 30 in the U.K., and arrive in the U.S. July 8.

Barrett released “The Madcap Laughs” and “Barrett” both in 1970, shortly after departing Pink Floyd. Floyd’s David Gilmour and Roger Waters helped produce the material, with Gilmour and Rick Wright appearing on the recordings.

“Opel” is a collection of alternate takes released long after Barrett became reclusive.

Marianne Faithfull album to feature Roger Waters music

Posted May 23, 2014 by Floydian Slip

The upcoming album by Marianne Faithfull will include music written by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters.

NME reports “Give My Love to London,” scheduled for release in September, will also include contributions from Pat Leonard — we’re presuming the same artist who’s worked with Floyd (“A Momentary Lapse of Reason” [1987]) and Waters (“Amused to Death” [1992] ).

Waters contributed “Incarceration of a Flower Child” to Faithfull’s “Vagabond Ways” album in 1999, and played on the track. He’d written the song in the late-’60s — supposedly about fallen bandmate Syd Barrett — but never recorded it himself or with Floyd.

NME says “Give My Love to London” will include music written by Waters and other artists, and lyrics by Faithfull.

Photo may show David Gilmour working on new album

Posted May 13, 2014 by Floydian Slip

This photo, posted to Polly Samson‘s Instagram account two weeks ago, seems to show Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour at work in the studio.

If recent, it could provide more evidence Gilmour’s at work on a new album.

Website Something Else! published the photo and identified the vocalists as Durga McBroom, Sarah Brown and Louise Clare Marshall.

Graham Nash seemed to leak news of a new Gilmour album during a television appearance in November (“Reports: David Gilmour recording“). Gilmour’s manager, Paul Loasby, then told “Floydian Slip” that nothing was yet concrete in way of a new recording project (“David Gilmour management: New project not yet firm”).

Samson, Gilmour’s wife, has collaborated with him on his On an Island album (2006) and Floyd’s The Division Bell (1994).

Nick Mason to host charity event at his home

Posted April 17, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and his wife, Annette, will host a charity auction at their Corsham, Wiltshire, home June 21 and 22.

The event will benefit Springboard Opportunity Group in Chippenham and the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust.

“We wanted to support two different charities who impact on the lives of folk locally,” Nick says. “We thought about one for the elderly and one for the young.”

He’ll bake a cake to be auctioned.

“Nick is an excellent cook and often creates wonderful diner parties for our friends,” Annette says. “When his daughters and sons are home, he still makes a special biscuit with a secret recipe which I know includes Mars Bars.”

The couple’s home was once owned by the Duchess of Cornwall (pictured with the Masons at last year’s event).
