Florida’s WRBA 95.9 FM ceases operations

Posted October 14, 2018 by Floydian Slip

RadioInsight reports former “Floydian Slip” affiliate station WRBA 95.9 FM in Panama City Beach, Fla., has ceased operations.

After sustaining “catastrophic damage” to its facilities in the Florida panhandle due to Hurricane Michael, owner Powell Broadcasting decided to pull out of the market rather than try to rebuild.

Market Manager Jeff Storey reported the station’s 150-foot tower blew down and breached the studio’s roof.

“Rock 95.9” was one of the first stations outside of our Burlington, Vt., home-base to sign on to carry “Floydian Slip” when we started syndicating the show in 2009. As such, we’ll always remember WRBA as one of our earliest successes — one that provided the first sign our plan to expand our audience beyond the Greater Burlington area might not be so far-fetched.

Then known as “Arrow 95.9,” WRBA signed on to carry “Floydian Slip” on Jan. 21, 2010. It carried the show up until just three months ago, when Program Director Greg “Fitzdog” Fitzgerald notified us the station was dropping “Floydian Slip” from its schedule.

RadioInsight also reports Fitzgerald lost his home in the hurricane; and his wife, Tammy McGee, has started a GoFundMe page to help the two recover.

We hope you’ll consider donating to help the couple reach their $50,000 goal: www.gofundme.com/tammy-mcgee-family-hurricane-aid.
