Pink Floyd members among Britain’s wealthiest musicians

Posted May 11, 2018 by Floydian Slip

The three surviving members of Pink Floyd are among Britain’s wealthiest musicians, according to The Sunday Times.

Nick Mason, David Gilmour and Roger Waters all appear on the annual “Rich List” to be published by The Times this Sunday.

Among the 36 richest musicians on the list, Mason is #30 at £92 million; Gilmour, #25 at £115 million ; and Waters is #12 at £175 million.

The “Rich List” catalogs the 1,000 richest people in Britain based on “identifiable wealth,” such as real estate and known assets. It does not include funds in private bank accounts.

The wealthiest musician on this year’s list is Sir Paul McCartney, worth a reported £820 million.

AIR Studios for sale

Posted May 8, 2018 by Floydian Slip

Associated Independent Recording (AIR) Studios in London is up for sale.

Founded by Beatles producer Sir George Martin in 1969, Pink Floyd recorded portions of its “Meddle” album (1971) there. David Gilmour also recorded at the facility during his work with Unicorn, Paul McCartney, Bryan Ferry, John Martyn, Pete Townshend and others.

AIR co-owner Paul Woolf told Billboard, “We’re a pair of old farts, basically. We’ve worked very hard over a number of years to get business in really solid shape, but there’s always a future path and it’s time to go.

“There’s someone out there who’s younger and who has got the tenacity that we had when we were 40,” he added.

The property, housed at London’s Lyndhurst Hall since 1991, contains approximately $6 million worth of equipment.
