Later this month, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour will become the first artist to release an entire album as a smartphone app.

To be released for iOS Nov. 19, the app will include Gilmour’s entire 2002 DVD “David Gilmour in Concert” for $8.99. An Android release will come later.

The concert was recorded at Robert Wyatt‘s “Meltdown” festival at London’s Royal Festival Hall in 2001, and a return visit the following year.

The concert songs are: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5); Terrapin; Fat Old Sun; Coming Back to Life; High Hopes; Je Crois Entendre Encore; Smile; Wish You Were Here; Comfortably Numb (featuring Wyatt); Dimming of the Day; Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-8); A Great Day for Freedom; Hushabye Mountain; Breakthrough (featuring Richard Wright); and Comfortably Numb (featuring Bob Geldof).

Extras include: Spare Digits (closeups of Gilmour’s guitar parts); Home Movie (shot at rehearsals); High Hopes Choral; I Put A Spell On You (with Jools Holland and Mica Paris); Don’t; and Sonnet 18.

Songs from 2001 were shot in HD, with the rest of the material shot in standard definition.

Roger Waters discusses new album

Posted November 7, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd’s Roger Water has confirmed he has plans to record another album.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Waters reveals he’s written an as-yet untitled song about religious extremism that will likely be part of an upcoming album with the working title “Heartland.”

Waters, who wrote the new song during breaks of his recent tour of “The Wall,” also revealed that former bandmates David Gilmour and Nick Mason will not appear on the album. (A bit premature to call, we’d like to think, since recording for the project hasn’t started.)

Waters’ last rock record was 1992’s “Amused to Death.” Since then he completed work on “Ca Ira,” a French opera.

Roger Waters to perform with veterans at charity event

Posted November 3, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters will perform at the 6th annual Stand Up for Heroes event, Thursday, Nov. 8, at New York’s Beacon Theatre.

The event, presented by the New York Comedy Festival and The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF), supports injured service members and their caregivers.

Waters will perform with a band comprised entirely of military veterans. Other acts scheduled to perform include Mike Birbiglia, Ricky Gervais, Patton Oswalt, Jon Stewart, Bruce Springsteen and Robin Williams.

The event is sold out, but musical performances will be streamed live at YouTube and made available at the BWF’s reMIND website.

The five previous events have raised more than $10 million to support wounded veterans and their families.
