David Gilmour, Roger Waters perform together

Pigs flew last night at an Oxfordshire, England, charity event, when Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour and Roger Waters performed live together.

Appearing in Kidlington for a concert to benefit the Hoping Foundation, the two played four songs together, accompanied by Guy Pratt, on bass and acoustic guitar; Harry Waters, on keyboards; Andy Newmark, on drums; Chester Kamen, on guitar; and Jonjo Grisdale, also on keyboards.

The set contained four songs: Floyd classics “Wish You Were Here,” “Comfortably Numb,” and “Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two),” along with Phil Spector’s “To Know Him Is To Love Him.”

The photo is from a rehearsal for the event.

Let’s hope this is a sign of things to come.

Join us this week for a special Floydian Slip #744: “Remembering Syd Barrett.”

It’s been four years since the enigmatic founder of Pink Floyd passed away, July 7, 2006. His short burst of extraordinary musical creativity in the late-’60s — followed by 30 years of reclusiveness — made him one of rock’s most intriguing players.

We’ll take a listen to material Syd recorded with the Floyd as well as plenty of solo material.

Floydian Slip to air on WBTN, Bennington, Vt.

“Floydian Slip” will begin airing on WBTN-AM in Bennington, Vt., Saturday, July 17.

The show will air on WBTN, “Locally grown radio,” each Saturday at noon.

Approximate 100,000 people are served by the station’s AM signal in Bennington and adjacent New York and Massachusetts communities. The station also netcasts at www.wbtnam.org.

WBTN becomes the seventh affiliate to join the show’s Random Precision Radio Network, created last summer when we began syndicating our show from our Vermont studio.

Rare Barrett recording goes unsold

A rare live recording of Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett went on the auction block last month, but failed to sell.

“I am currently awaiting to see if a pending post-sale offer is to be completed,” Bonhams auction house consultant Stephen Maycock told Floydian Slip.

Maycock says bidders failed to reach a reserve price for the recording, which expected to fetch upwards of $5,000, on the day of the auction June 23. He declined to name the reserve price.

The reel of ½-inch tape contains a concert performed Jan. 27, 1972, at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge, England. The show included Barrett in one of his last live performances sitting-in for three numbers with the Last Minute Put Together Boogie Band: “Number Nine,” “Gotta Be a Reason,” “Let’Roll,” and “Sweet Little Angel.”

The recording also includes performances by Hawkwind and Pink Fairies.

Contest: Win “Pink Floyd: The Music and the Mystery”

According to publisher Omnibus Press, the book is the ultimate illustrated discography of Pink Floyd, covering everything from their first single to their most recent album “The Division Bell”. Also included are separate sections on the work on Roger Waters and Syd Barrett.”

The title was recently published in the U.K. The U.S. publication date is Sept. 1.
