Lily Allen takes a poke at the Floyd

Posted September 15, 2009 by Floydian Slip

London’s Metro newspaper reports 24-year-old singer/songwriter Lily Allen has spoken out against file sharing.

Her comments, posted on her MySpace page, are in response to a recent Times story quoting Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason suggesting prosecuting those who illegally share music files is misguided and shortsighted.

“I think music piracy is having a dangerous effect on British music, but some really rich and successful artists like Nick Mason from Pink Floyd and Ed O’Brien from Radiohead don’t seem to think so,” she wrote.

“These guys from huge bands said file-sharing music is fine. It probably is fine for them. They do sell-out arena tours and have the biggest Ferrari collections in the world.

“For new talent though, file-sharing is a disaster as it’s making it harder and harder for new acts to emerge.

“You don’t start out in music with the Ferraris. Instead you get a huge debt from your record company, which you spend years working your arse off to repay.”

The Ferrari reference would seem to be a jab at Mason’s impressive auto collection.

Very shortsighted and even sounds a bit envious to me… I think even for starting artists file sharing can be an easy way for people to get familiar with the artist and his/her music. True fans buy albums/songs anyway… Harder for new acts to emerge? I don’t think so.. As long as you make quality music and have the talent required, it will pay off.. If not, maybe a careerchange should be concidered… It took the artists like Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) and Ed O’Brien (Radiohead) years to adshieve where they are today. These days its the recordcompanies that push commercialised fashion music through the customers throats, a few true artists set aside, its the latter that will be truly succesfull anyway. If miss Allen is one of the latter? Time will tell…

Lily Allen is a dumb, pop tart, whiny, roodypoo candyass. Nick Mason is right, file sharing isn’t hurt sales. In fact, helps gain new fans (just like bootlegging claimed to hurt sales but didn’t). In fact, people who do file sharing buy twice as many CDs as those who don’t. Lily Allen makes lameass music and is a British counterpart of Britney Spears bubblegum shit here in the US. These robots don’t realize that the real reason for file sharing is partially record labels pushing image over substance but also the worldwide recession soon to be depression is causing people to spend money on food and necessities to survive. The movie industry and even video game industry is suffering as bad as music.
