Swedish duo covers “Julia Dream”

Posted December 29, 2009 by Floydian Slip

Fruits de Mer Records has released a re-recording of Pink Floyd’s 1968 single “Julia Dream” by Swedish duo Us and Them.

The song, a medley of the Floyd number written by Roger Waters and the traditional nursery rhyme “All the Pretty Horses,” appears on a limited edition 7-inch vinyl EP along with two other covers: “Dialogue,” originally by Jackson C. Frank, and “Home to Stay,” first recorded by Tudor Lodge.

The “ice”-colored record plays at 33.3 RPM and comes enclosed in an 8-page full-color booklet containing lyrics.

This is the eighth release from the Surrey-based Fruits de Mer Records, which boasts it “loses money on every release and we love it.” The company, in business for 18 months, has previously released re-recordings of songs originally by Small Faces, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Nick Drake, Caravan, Kraftwerk, Van der Graaf Generator, Nico and others.

This latest release is available for $8 (£5) directly from the label: www.fruitsdemerrecords.com, or at a handful of U.K.-based retailers: Piccadilly Records, Norman Records, Heyday Mail Order and Rough Trade.

The title isn’t yet listed at the label’s Web site, but you can contact them directly to purchase: fruitsdemer7@hotmail.com.
