Sirius XM creates The Pink Floyd Channel

Posted May 21, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Satellite radio company Sirius XM will debut The Pink Floyd Channel on May 25.

The 24/7 service devoted to the band will begin on Deep Tracks (Channel 27) May 25 through 28, and then move to Sirius Channel 142/XM Channel 43 from May 29 through July 9.

Starting June 29, the service will also be available online and through the company’s mobile app for “an extended period,” according to a news release.

The channel, hosted and curated by Jim Ladd, will feature music from Floyd as well as the band’s members.

Sirius XM has created temporary channels devoted to other artists in the past, such as Paul McCartney, The Who, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and many others.

It appears uncertain whether The Pink Floyd Channel will become a permanent offering, such as the company’s channels devoted to Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley and Jimmy Buffet.

Come on in, Sirius XM … the water’s fine.

Did this get going on Sirus 142??? I’ve checked and there is no channel broadcasting there.

  2. mikew says:

I’m in Canada. I’ll bet that’s the reason I’m unable to receive it.

  3. BHR says:

I can’t get it as well. I don’t really understand if it will be a permanent on 142 or not and whether it will be available in Canada

  4. john says:

This article is incorrect. The channel will restart on Friday June 29th and run through July 9th. I don’t understand though why this will eventually be an internet only station. This make a hell of a lot more sense to me that a Pearl Jam station.

  5. mikew says:

June 29th to July 9th only? What a missed opportunity with Roger Waters on tour. Some things just don’t make any sense.

  6. randy says:

Still no channel 142 6/30/12.from florida.

  7. SaltLick says:

Sirius channel 142 is working for me since June 29th. But, I’m hearing the same songs over and over again… Young Lust, Another Brick in the Wall, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Pigs, etc. Same line-up Sirius had during Memorial Day weekend. Not trilled about it. Want more of a variety… More older stuff. They’ve put out SO much music, so let’s hear it and make it permanent station! More work than Pearl Jam could ever think of putting out!

  8. Well, I _do_ know a place where you can hear much deeper tracks … 😉

  9. Bill says:

I’ve had 4 subscriptions to Sirius Radio for years, and I don’t get channel 142 on any of them. Bill from Texas

  10. Dave-O says:

Floyd is now only available on the internet. XM Sirius 802. Too bad I can;t get it in the car anymore. It was great!!

  11. John says:

I enjoyed it on XM 43. I love Pink Floyd, and when i found out it was gone, I wondered why they don’t have a 24/7 channel but we have E-Street radio which in my opinion isn’t anywhere near Pink Floyd. When my subscription is up a the end of the year, I’m done.

  12. I got six free months when I bought a new car a couple years ago, and subscribed when the free trial was over. (First taste is free, kid.)

My biggest complaint is the sound quality. Sounds like an MP3 compressed at about 32kbps, or is it just me?

  13. Jeff says:

I was so excited hear about the floyd channel. It was on deep tracks (27) for a weekend then moved to channel 43. I was glued to it. Then all of a sudden it was gone. I had to call customer service to find out it is available only online. So, they tease us with the channel and then yank the rug out from under our feet. It is the best channel on XM. I am seriously considering cancelling over this. The execution of the channel was terrible. There is huge demand for this channel. Why only have it available online? ARE NON ONLINE XM RADIO SUBSCRIBERS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! IS OUR $$ NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! WHY ARE WE SECOND CLASS CUSTOMERS ON XM?!

  14. Peter says:

XM’s “customer service” department is anything but. Don’t bother calling as they will not honor promises they’ve made. Plus, they are terrible communicators. They literally do not listen and consistently lack follow through. I have had nothing but disappointment in my interaction with them. I buy this “lifetime” subscription, and it turns out to be anything but “lifetime.” What they really mean is the car’s lifetime. Well, the guy I initially bought it from failed to stipulate that key fact. I specifically asked if it meant lifetime, and he said “Yes.” They consistently screw up. Now, this Pink Floyd channel debacle is just another in the long line of XM screw ups!…online only….gimme a break! How bogus. I really love the idea of commercial-free radio, but XM really needs to take a look at how they do business. Honestly, it’s terrible, and shame on me for getting suckered.

  15. Paul says:

I agree with everyone’s comments here–it makes absolutely no sense to take it off the air and make the Floyd channel internet only. When it came on in my car, that’s the only channel I listened to. Please Sirius/XM, do the right thing here and bring it back! I want my Floyd!!!!

  16. Joe says:

I would like to hear a rationale reason from Sirius/XM as to why Pink Floyd is online only. As other comments have stated, the “Boss” and pearl Jam (???) have dedicated Satellite channels but one of the most creative bands in the history of rock are only available online? Makew zero sense

  17. Rene says:

To my fellow Canadians: you can blame the CRTC for not getting the PF channel in Canada, even on the Internet. See the SiriusXM FAQ on why we can’t get all the channels they do in the USA. It’s our stupid Cancon law. Still, I do have some gripes with SiriusXM. I don’t like Springsteen, Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam or any of the others that have their own channel. And since they have their own channel, why do they play so much of them on channels like Deep Tracks? Why can’t we have a Progressive Rock channel? There are so many prog bands putting out great music these days. Occasionally you’ll hear a track by Porcupine Tree, Flower Kings or Reniassance, but what about IZZ, Delusion Squared, Big Big Train, etc. etc? And the classics like Yes, ELP, KC and PF.

  18. susann hood says:

Sirius , you seriously need permanent Floyd

  19. They visited the us before 1979… I own a concert poster from the 1977 concert ” pigs over the bay”

  20. Lewis Contewis says:

So…will the Floyd channel be returning at some point?? I’m hooked! Can’t just pull the rug out from me!

  21. Herb Burd says:

Why has it ended? The Pink Floyd channel the main reason for getting SiriusXM I listen for hours daily. Bring it Back Please

  22. johnny5 says:

is there any other channel on sirius that would have ‘floydian slip’ weekly? i haven’t heard the show in years, and really miss it.

  23. We’re not on satellite radio, but we’re on nearly 80 over-the-air stations and several netcasters. For that matter, nearly all of our FM (and AM) affiliates stream online as well, so you oughta be able to catch the show anywhere you’re at.
