Posted March 21, 2013 by Floydian Slip

EMI is looking to “turn the moon dark” to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon.”

The record label is asking fans to listen to the album beginning at 12 midnight GMT on March 24 and to tweet their thoughts, memories and photos using hashtag #DarkSide40.

Though the record’s official release date is often misreported, according to EMI it was released in the U.K. March 24, 1973, making this Sunday its 40th anniversary.

Leading up to the anniversary, the official website of the band has been posting reimaginings of the album’s iconic sleeve design, by long-time Floyd designer Storm Thorgerson.
