David Gilmour music included with upcoming Peter Green book

Posted April 28, 2021 by Floydian Slip

In October, Rufus Publications will publish “Peter Green — The Albatross Man,” which will include a new recording featuring David Gilmour.

The recording is a new version of “Need Your Love So Bad,” which includes a recently-discovered vocal recorded by Green in his mother’s attic in the 1960s. Gilmour recently contributed guitar to the track.

Green co-founded Fleetwood Mac in 1967 and left the band in Spring ’70 after a period of mental decline exacerbated by his use of LSD. He died in 2020.

Rufus Publications says for the three years leading up to his passing, he’d been participating in compiling this book, which is devoted to his life and work.

Three versions of the book will be made available: The “ultra-limited edition,” limited to 50 copies, and the “deluxe” edition, limited to 500, will include the music on vinyl and CD. The third edition will not.

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett is featured on the second song in the new release: a new version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Man of the World.”

Gilmour and Hammett both participated in the February 2020 Peter Green tribute concert, organized by drummer Mick Fleetwood.

Pre-order “Peter Green — The Albatross Man” now.

Surrogate Bands contest postponed until ’22

Posted April 23, 2021 by Floydian Slip

We’ve decided to postpone for another year the “Floydian Slip” Surrogate Bands Pink Floyd Cover Contest.

Last spring, due to the pandemic, we postponed what would have been our 10th annual contest with hopes to bring it back in ’21.

With the vaccine rolling out now, we’re optimistic for the future, but feel it still might not be responsible to ask musicians to gather in close quarters of recording studios to lay down tracks to submit to the contest.

We’ll hopefully announce details of our 10th annual contest in Spring ’22.

We began Surrogate Bands in 2011 as a way for musicians to celebrate the music of Pink Floyd by recording their own versions of Floyd songs to submit to the contest. Winners have been featured during “Surrogate Bands,” a special all-covers edition of the “Floydian Slip” radio show, broadcast every July.

The “Surrogate Bands” program will air as scheduled this July, without the contest element.

Tickets on sale for Roger Waters 2022 tour

Posted April 8, 2021 by Floydian Slip

“This is Not a Drill,” the North American tour Roger Waters had announced before the pandemic hit in Spring 2020, has been rescheduled for ’22.

Tickets are on sale now for the 36 dates that begin in Pittsburgh July 6 and finish in Dallas Oct. 8.

In a statement, Waters calls this his “first farewell tour.”

“It is a stunning indictment of the corporate dystopia in which we all struggle to survive, and a call to action to love, protect, and share our precious and precarious planet home,” he writes.

“The show includes a dozen great songs from Pink Floyd’s Golden Era alongside several new ones — words and music, same writer, same heart, same soul, same man. Could be his last hurrah. Wow!”

These shows will be the first Roger has performed “in the round” with audience on all sides.

Tickets bought for 2020 will be valid for the new dates. Those ticket holders will receive an email with instructions.

Buy tickets now.
