Floyd beats Bowie

Posted March 24, 2011 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd beat David Bowie in Classic Rock 102.5’s “Tournament of Rock” this morning.

“50-43,” announces Program Director Sean Green. “Bowie was ahead by 14 at half time. People just assumed Floyd would win and then had to make up some serious votes, but they did it.”

That means Floyd moves to the Final Four, battling either Tom Petty or Led Zeppelin Friday afternoon at about 4:20 (MT).

50-43? Really? A little too close for comfort.

Floyd beats Moodys

Pink Floyd beat the Moody Blues in Classic Rock 102.5’s “Tournament of Rock” this morning.

“Floyd survived a late surge of Moody Blues votes to win 60-48,” Program Director Sean Green tells us. “Next battle is against David Bowie Thursday at 7:15-ish. A win there pushes them into the Final Four.”

Bowie? No disrespect, Duke, but that’ll be easy.

Help Floyd make it to the Final Four

Posted March 17, 2011 by Floydian Slip

Floydian Slip affiliate station Classic Rock 102.5 (KMGI) in Pocatello, Idaho, is staging its annual “Tournament of Rock,” a two-week battle to determine the greatest band of all time.

The station airs a battle every hour during morning and afternoon drive time for two weeks through March 28.

“Sixty-four bands, 63 losers,” explains KMGI Program Director Sean Green. Voting is all done by phone. “Our first year the phone company called up the business line and asked what the hell was going on. I guess we overloaded some of their circuits.

“Floyd has never won, but they made it to the finals in the first year where they lost to the Eagles. … But Zep never won until last year, and this is our 10th year of it. So there’s hope for Floyd yet!”

Pink Floyd enters its first battle this morning at approximately 8:15 a.m. (MT) going up against Jethro Tull.

If you’d like to cast your ballot, call the station at (208) 235-1025 or toll-free at (866) 900-KMGI just after 8:15 a.m. and simply say the name of the band you choose. (Um … that’d be “Pink Floyd.”)

The “Tournament of Rock” is sponsored by Brian’s Tire Factory and Auto Repair of Pocatello.

You can see the bracket on the Rock 102.5 Web site. Sean tells us the placements were selected by random draw. (How else do you explain Ratt going up against The Beatles?)
