David Gilmour on cover of new Uncut

Posted July 23, 2015 by Floydian Slip

The upcoming issue of Uncut magazine features David Gilmour on the cover.

Uncut spoke to Gilmour aboard Astoria, his houseboat recording studio moored on the Thames, about his new album “Rattle That Lock” and other topics.

“In some ways, I think I’ve found my feet,” Gilmour tells the magazine. “It’s quite late in life to start finding one’s feet, I must admit. Or at least, to find them again …”

The new issue goes on sale beginning July 28.

David Gilmour album details, American concert dates

Posted July 16, 2015 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour announced today his new album, “Rattle That Lock,” will be released in four formats on Sept. 18, and he’ll perform a handful of concerts in North America this spring.

“Rattle That Lock’” is Gilmour’s fourth solo album following 2006’s “On An Island.” It’ll be available for pre-order tomorrow, July 17, at davidgilmour.com.

Produced by Gilmour and Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera, primary lyricist on the project is Gilmour’s wife and writing partner Polly Samson. Cover art for the album was art directed by Dave Stansbie from The Creative Corp. under the creative directorship of Aubrey “Po” Powell from Hipgnosis.

The album’s songlist is:

  1. 5 A.M (Gilmour)
  2. Rattle That Lock (Gilmour/Samson/Boumendil)
  3. Faces Of Stone (Gilmour)
  4. A Boat Lies Waiting (Gilmour/Samson)
  5. Dancing Right In Front Of Me (Gilmour)
  6. In Any Tongue (Gilmour/Samson)
  7. Beauty (Gilmour)
  8. The Girl In The Yellow Dress (Gilmour/Samson)

First single

The title track “Rattle That Lock” will be heard for the first time on BBC Radio’s “Breakfast Show” with Chris Evans tomorrow morning, July 17, at 8:50 (previously reported in error as July 16) and will be available immediately afterward to download and stream worldwide.

The song begins with four notes created by Michaël Boumendil, which precede announcements at French SNCF railway stations that Gilmour recorded on his iPhone at Aix-en-Prevence station.

Samson’s lyrics are inspired by Book II of John Milton’s “Paradise Lost,” which is also featured in her recent novel, “The Kindness.” The single features the Liberty Choir and singers Mica Paris and Louise Marshall.

Gilmour’s first North American concert dates since his “On an Island” tour in 2006 will take place in March and April 2016, following his previously-announced UK and European dates this fall.

New David Gilmour music airing tomorrow; video tease

Posted July 15, 2015 by Floydian Slip

Correction: David Gilmour’s appearance will be July 17, not July 16 as originally posted below.

David Gilmour will be a guest on BBC Radio 2’s “Breakfast Show” with Chris Evans at 8:50 a.m. UK time tomorrow, July 16.

The program will include material from Gilmour’s upcoming “Rattle That Lock,” the first airplay for the album that is being released in September.

BBC will post audio from the show “shortly after broadcast” at the show’s website.

The Gilmour camp has posted a 15-second teaser video of what appears to be the title track of the album. We’ve shared it below.

Finally, the official Pink Floyd Twitter account has alerted us to stay tuned for an announcement coming tomorrow, July 16 at 5 p.m. GMT.

There’s speculation it may regard an upcoming release date for the album’s first single.
