Wise instructions from Ron Geesin

Posted March 17, 2011 by Floydian Slip

One-time Pink Floyd collaborator Ron Geesin (“Atom Heart Mother,” “Music from ‘The Body’”) was kind enough to include some handwritten instructions along with the copy of his latest, “RonCycle 1: The Journey of a Melody,” he mailed to “Floydian Slip.”

Read more about the album in our previous post.

We’ll be playing from the album on a future show.

New Ron Geesin album out

Posted March 11, 2011 by Floydian Slip

roncycleAvant garde recording artist Ron Geesin has released his latest album, “RonCycle 1: The Journey of a Melody.”

Geesin has worked on the suite, composed of 16 movements, since 1986. “The reason that it has all taken so long is that, as it grew, it frightened me so much that I had to walk away for long periods,” Geesin explains.

He credits Mark Ayres, known for his work on the BBC’s “Dr. Who,” with helping complete the project by transferring parts of the project from analog tape to hard drive. “The whole digi-structure was becoming overwhelmingly complicated,” Geesin explains.

Geesin is best known to Pink Floyd fans for his work on Floyd’s “Atom Heart Mother” (1970) and his collaboration with Floyd’s Roger Waters on “Music from ‘The Body’” (1970).

He was a guest on Floydian Slip in November 2010. You can hear that interview and read a transcript online.

“RonCycle 1: The Journey of a Melody” is available on CD and 180-gram LP, which includes a bonus CD. Buy it online at tonefloat.

Ron Geesin to appear on Floydian Slip

Posted November 21, 2010 by Floydian Slip

ron_geesin_webAvant-garde multimedia artist Ron Geesin will appear on “Floydian Slip” next weekend.

Geesin collaborated on the 1970 film soundtrack “Music from The Body” with Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters. That album turns 40 years old Nov. 28.

Geesin also worked with the band on its 1970 “Atom Heart Mother” album, struggling to handle orchestrations on the epic “Atom Heart Mother Suite” while the band was away on tour.

Geesin is only the fourth guest to appear on “Floydian Slip” in the show’s 20-year history. Sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson was on the show in 1997; sound engineer Andy Jackson appeared in 2001; and “Wall” artist Gerald Scarfe was a guest just a few weeks ago.

Geesin will appear on show #764, which will air Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 27 and 28.
