Sirius XM creates The Pink Floyd Channel

Posted May 21, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Satellite radio company Sirius XM will debut The Pink Floyd Channel on May 25.

The 24/7 service devoted to the band will begin on Deep Tracks (Channel 27) May 25 through 28, and then move to Sirius Channel 142/XM Channel 43 from May 29 through July 9.

Starting June 29, the service will also be available online and through the company’s mobile app for “an extended period,” according to a news release.

The channel, hosted and curated by Jim Ladd, will feature music from Floyd as well as the band’s members.

Sirius XM has created temporary channels devoted to other artists in the past, such as Paul McCartney, The Who, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and many others.

It appears uncertain whether The Pink Floyd Channel will become a permanent offering, such as the company’s channels devoted to Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley and Jimmy Buffet.

Come on in, Sirius XM … the water’s fine.

Roger Waters on Sirius XM, CBS TV

Posted May 16, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Once Pink Floyd front-man Roger Waters will make two major appearances this week on network radio and television.

Tomorrow night he joins friend Jim Ladd on Ladd’s show on satellite radio’s “Deep Tracks” (Channel 27). The four-hour interview begins at 7 p.m. EDT Thursday.

Ladd left KLOS in Los Angeles last year and took a job with Sirius XM. He has a long history with Waters, and played the part of the DJ on the “Radio K.A.O.S.” (1987) album.

Sunday night Steve Kroft‘s interview with Waters will air on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” which starts at 7 p.m. EDT.

Full episodes of “60 Minutes” are freely available on the show’s Web site for some time after each broadcast.

Drummer Clive Welham, one-time bandmate of David Gilmour and Syd Barrett, has died.

Welham played with Geoff Mott and the Mottoes in 1962, a band that included Barrett. A little later, he went on to work with The Ramblers and Jokers Wild, bands that included Gilmour.
