Correction: “Endless River” won’t include David Crosby, Graham Nash

Posted July 12, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Ultimate Classic Rock has retracted its story from a few days ago, stating David Crosby and Graham Nash will appear on the upcoming Pink Floyd album.

The source cites the Brain Damage website saying the duo’s work will, instead, appear on an upcoming David Gilmour solo album.

Two upcoming Floyd-related projects. Even better. 😉

“Endless River” to feature David Crosby, Graham Nash

Posted July 10, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Note: This story has been corrected. Read the correction.

Ultimate Classic Rock reports “The Endless River,” the new Pink Floyd album coming this fall, will include vocals by David Crosby and Graham Nash.

“We went down to sing on this particular song that he wrote about friends that had died,” Nash told VH-1 Radio Network’s Dave Basner. “It’s a beautiful song, too — beautiful.”

Nash was the first to leak news of a new Floyd project, when he mentioned during a TV appearance last November he was heading over to Gilmour’s studio to lay down some tracks. The project was presumed to be a Gilmour solo album, but apparently was “The Endless River.”

Crosby and Nash sang background on the title track of Gilmour’s “On an Island” (2006).

Surrogate Bands contest winner: Lucas Ballesteros

Posted July 7, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Lucas Ballesteros of Buenos Aires, Argentina, won our 4th Annual Surrogate Bands Pink Floyd Cover Contest.

Ballesteros took top prize with his one-man-band rendition of Floyd’s “Echoes.”

“I played and recorded as a solo-experimental-hobby-independent artist since I can remember,” Lucas tells us. “Currently I’m playing and recording my own stuff in my home studio. I finished an album recorded in my home studio from 2003 to 2008, still unreleased.

“I think it’s time to go pro and get out of the bedroom studio,” he adds.

We couldn’t agree more.

Ballesteros receives $200 in Pink Floyd merchandise from The Official Web Store of Pink Floyd.

Second prize, selected from all entries by random draw, went to Don Horn of band AITX of Ontario, Ohio. Don gets a Pink Floyd periodical package including four magazines featuring the group or its members on the cover: Uncut (November 2013), Guitar World (Holiday 2013), Record Collector (August 2013) and Classic Rock presents Prog (September 2010).

Thanks to everyone who entered the contest.

Reports: New Pink Floyd album coming this fall

Posted July 5, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Two individuals close to the Pink Floyd camp are posting to social media that a new Pink Floyd album will be released in October.

Polly Samson, wife of Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and his writing partner for the past couple decades, tweeted today: “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called ‘The Endless River.’ Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful.”

Vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson, who’s toured with Floyd and Gilmour, posted a photo previously posted to Instagram by Samson (“Photo may show David Gilmour working on new album”), with the caption, “During a session recording the NEW PINK FLOYD ALBUM!!”

More details as they’re available.

We reported a couple of months ago that the Casa Madrona hotel in Sausalito, Calif., has opened to the public the suite where a young Pink Floyd stayed during its first tour of the United States.

We recently received this photo of the suite, which starts at $509 a night.
